Options
| Finish | Look | Hides flaws? |
|---|---|---|
| Smooth (skim coat) | Clean, modern | No. Shows every ripple under raking light |
| Knockdown | Flattened splatter | Yes, well |
| Orange peel | Fine bumpy texture | Somewhat |
| Skip trowel | Hand-applied, irregular | Yes |

Smooth Costs More
A smooth finish needs more joint compound, sanding and skill to look right, especially with light from large windows. HomeGuide prices texture at $1–$2 per sq ft and paint at $1–$2 per sq ft (HomeGuide). A full skim coat often costs more than a texture.
Matching the Rest of the House
If walls have a texture, a matching ceiling texture can look more consistent. If you plan to update walls later, smooth gives you the most flexibility.
Paint
A flat ceiling paint hides small imperfections best. Prime fresh joint compound first.
Ask for It in Writing
Quotes should name the finish, whether a skim coat is included, and the number of paint coats.
Request a Popcorn Ceiling Quote
Two quick questions. An independent ceiling company that works in your area will contact you to look at the ceilings and quote them.
Please note: Wichita Popcorn Ceiling Removal refers homeowners to independent ceiling contractors. We are not a contractor.
